New York City: After Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson turned the Ethereum Classic Twitter account into the new community page for the Ergo community, the account’s followers may have found themselves becoming unintentional fans of an entirely new cryptocurrency project. This may have happened because Hoskinson turned the Ethereum Classic Twitter account into the new community page for the Ergo community.
Since its establishment in July 2016, the Ethereum Classic account has amassed over 600,000 followers, and up until September 15, it has been used to post about Ethereum Classic. The most recent post was on September 15.
On the other hand, as of the 6th of October, the Twitter page now displays the Ergo Platform. The Ergo Platform is a proof-of-work (PoW) blockchain that is capable of allowing smart contracts. It is comparable to Ethereum and has ties to Cardano.
The executive director of a public charity that supports Ethereum Classic, Bob Summerwill, pointed the finger at Hoskinson for repurposing the account on October 6, in a lengthy thread that was pinned on Ethereum Classic’s new Twitter handle. Summerwill noted that “6 years of community work has been erased” as a result of Hoskinson’s actions.
With just 364 followers at the time of this writing, the new handle has not yet come close to matching the number of people who followed the previous account.
Summerwill explains in the thread how Hoskinson’s blockchain company, Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), withdrew from the ETC for a second time as a result of a lack of support for a proposal of his, and how Hoskinson refused to talk about the Twitter account until a post he made on September 6 in which he declared he would not be returning it to the ETC community. Summerwill also discusses how Hoskinson refused to talk about the
The action taken by Hoskinson has, in all likelihood, resulted in an increase in the number of Twitter followers of the Ergo Platform. The platform’s previous account on Twitter was @ergoplatformorg, and it had just 64,000 followers. Even the followers of the Ergo account have been directed to the “new account” @Ergo Platform by the owner of the Ergo account.
Hoskinson is widely known for his hate of Ethereum, going so far as to term Ethereum Classic a “dead project with no purpose.” These tensions between Hoskinson and his old project are not new. Hoskinson is also well known for his dislike of Ethereum.
